Republican-linked PAC promotes independent candidate Danielle Ford
There is another important development in the governor's race involving Danielle Ford, the independent candidate who shares a last name with Democratic nominee Aaron Ford.
According to an October 20 investigation by The Nevada Independent, a newly formed political action committee called Silver State Accountability PAC has distributed campaign mailers promoting Danielle Ford as the “AOC of Nevada.”
The PAC was established on October 8 and has apparent connections to Republican political operatives. Its registered address is in the same commercial complex as Governor Lombardo's campaign office.
A spokesperson for Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez confirmed that she does not endorse Danielle Ford and instead supports Aaron Ford.
The timing has raised questions about whether the mailers are intended to attract voters who might otherwise support Aaron Ford. However, the reporting does not establish that Lombardo's campaign directed the effort or that Danielle Ford herself received money from the PAC.
Nevada voters will see three candidates on the gubernatorial ballot: Republican Joe Lombardo, Democrat Aaron Ford, and independent Danielle Ford.
The distinction matters: Independent PAC spending in support of a candidate is not the same as a direct campaign contribution. The PAC's underlying donors had not been publicly disclosed in the investigation.
